coffeeandink	12:17p	Supernatural 3x16: No Rest for the Wicked So yesterday I got an email that JR.com had the Asus 900 was in stock and I checked on the Website and my order was still stuck in processing and this morning it was still in processing and so I called them to ask if I could pick up at the store but it's mail-order only and I have to wait for them to ship it out and it probably won't get here today and OMG what if it doesn't arrive before Wiscon, I'll have to wait a whole extra week for it and I want my new toy NOW NOW NOW. fencer_x	6:27p	okay, Tuti, you can update now. My boyfriend's back and you're gonna be in trouble~♪ Kobe performance of Kuuchuu Blanco ended last night, so GUESS WHO'S BACK IN THE KANTOU REGION!! The next performance is in Chiba, which pretty much IS Tokyo, so there's no need to stay in a hotel--Nagayan's back home. Plus, the show isn't until Sunday, and even after that he doesn't have another show he must travel for until the 21st in Toyama (nearish to me). After that it's back Tokyo-ward for a performance in Saitama (a "suburb" really of Tokyo, so he can go home again) on the 23rd, and then he wraps up with multiple overnights in Nagoya the 25-27, and finally senshuuraku in Ibaraki (SHOULD be able to go home and commute for that) on the 29th. miyamoto_kano [ geoviki ]	7:52p	Say Please - my thoughts My thoughts on Say Please— This is a favorite story of mine because I have a real thing for rentboy fic, so I was pleased to see it published. I think all of us here are really hoping for sensei's success, and I hope that Deux continues to find it worthwhile to release English translations of her work. I have a copy of B-Boy Love 4 with chapter 2, Come Inside, in the original Japanese. This original version is larger, for starters, by ¾ in. all around, and it's too bad that the English version couldn't be as large. Money considerations, I suppose. Also, the first 3 pages of chapter 2 are in color in the original, again something I'm sure was cut because of cost in Deux's version. I don't have a lot of printed yaoi in my possession to compare to, but the quality otherwise seems good. One of the first things that I noticed was that all of the SFX and scribbled words are untouched in the original Japanese, with translations printed adjacent to them. I'm so used to Liquid Passion's versions, with no remaining Japanese, that this was jarring at first. After reading and rereading, I still prefer having the original text replaced entirely, and I'm not sure why the decision was made to leave it in. I'm not sure what font they ended up using, although it's not the common Wildwords we are used to, but it was clear and non-intrusive. I'm very familiar with Liquid Passion's (LP) scanlated text, so I can't help but compare the two versions. I prefer Liquid Passion's version of the actual SFX translations. Some of Deux's are awkward: zwip for slurp, for example. LP's tend to be actual words, whereas Deux's are often sounds that are not accurately conveyed in English (k replaces c a lot). Deux doesn't use the –san/-chan honorifics, either, so the way that Ryuuichi always uses "chan" is lost, and along with it a piece of his characterization. Deux uses more natural dialogue slang in places, though. Their language flows pretty well for the most part, and is an improvement in several places. For example, in ch. 2, Ryuuichi calls Sakura a "…pervert teacher! split personality" in LP's version. It's a "fucking two-faced piece of shit" in Deux's version, which seems more natural. I think Deux's version is better throughout chapter 3. On the other hand, I think I prefer the Valley girl speak of LP's high school girls in ch. 4, which is gone in Deux's version. LP isn't afraid to use the scary graphic words like "ass" and "cock", either. Finally, there's a cringeworthy English error in Deux's version in ch. 2: "I liked being with you more then I thought I would." On the whole, I'm satisfied with the new English version and hope it does well so that sensei can get some of the rewards she so richly deserves. (15 Comments |Comment on this)

I'm sort of new at Japanese and I was wondering why sometimes there are two kanji for the same word, such as 才 and 歳, there are others but I can't think of them right now. I tried googling but i couldn't find anything. :( 2.Ohhh, and i was wondering what the word for "different" as in the opposite of 同じ would be. When i look it up in the dictionary all i get is words that have the nuance of "unique, odd," like how we'd say "Ohhh, that's different." fruits_basket [ ssashimi ]	12:10a	Yesterday, my best friend and I had a trial cosplay shoot; EMPHASIS ON TRIAL. It was a really short shoot, and given the circumstances (the rain and bad lighting)we really shouldn't have shot at all! Although unproductive, I did learn something: It's damn hard to pose in front of the camera, as well as portray your given character. I have so much respect for cosplayers now!! It's also damn hard not feeling conscious about what you're wearing, and not shying away from strangers that give you weird looks! haha. More in my Deviant Art :D </a> Thanks! If it were just もの I'd think it was some sort of nominalizer + ほど, and if the ほど weren't there I'd think the 者 was referring to the people there (which I still do). I dunno, that bit's confusing me. And while I'm here, does anyone know of any good resources that compare kanji with similar meanings as well as readings, such as 見る and 観る, 聞く and 聴く, 会う and 逢う, etc? Finally, is it legitimate to write 。。。 instead of ．．．　or ...? Because every time I see that it annoys the heck out of me, but I don't want to get all grumpy about it when it turns out that that's perfectly legitimate. My sister (living in Japan now as a JET and friends with a bunch of JETs) insists that anyone's who has actually studied Japanese in classroom should go for 2級 at the minimum. I, however, feel totally confident about passing 3級. I'd like to go to my limits and take 2級 if it's feasible, but what study materials would I want? I saw that you all had mentioned the 完全マスター series for grammar. I'll also need a huge catch-up on vocab because that's where my college's program really lacks. Thoughts? Warnings?
